LGBTQ+ Material Donation
Books and Audio/Visual Donations
The Des Moines Pride Center Library is built by our community — for our community.
With thousands of items and growing every month, our collection exists entirely because of people like you. We do not have a formal acquisitions budget. Every book, film, magazine, and archival piece on our shelves has been donated by supporters who believe LGBTQIA+ stories matter.
From memoirs and novels to documentaries, educational texts, and periodicals, your contributions help us preserve our history, celebrate our culture, and ensure access to affirming resources for all who walk through our doors.
What We Accept:
-
New or gently used LGBTQIA+ books
-
Audio/visual materials
-
Periodicals and magazines
Non-LGBTQIA+ materials or duplicate items may be directed to our community book sale, which raises essential funds to sustain Pride Center operations.
Donations can be dropped off on Sundays 2pm — 5pm. Every item strengthens our shared story.
Historical/Cultural Archives and Papers
Our Historical Archives preserve the stories, artifacts, and lived experiences that shaped Iowa's LGBTQIA+ history.
The Des Moines Pride Center strives to serve as a research hub for students, historians, authors, activists, and community members seeking to understand and document our collective journey. These materials represent more than objects — they represent courage, resilience, and pride across generations.
If you have photographs, documents, organizational records, memorabilia, or other materials that contribute to Iowa LGBTQIA+ history, we would be honored to preserve them.
Please contact us at 515-518-0530 to begin a conversation about contributing to the archives.
